A Little About Me (a.k.a. How I Went from
Drive-Thrus to DIY Hand Soap)

Hey, I’m Kristin!

Born and raised in Houston—along with my husband and our daughter, Camryn. For years, we were doing the whole “normal life” thing: work, school, activities, crash, repeat. Like most families, we leaned hard into convenience. Drive-thru dinners were the norm, and our cleaning stash looked like a drugstore aisle exploded under the sink. Fast, easy, done.

But in 2015, everything shifted. My husband convinced me to leave my corporate job and help run the backend of his business. I swapped heels for flip-flops, spreadsheets for schedules—and suddenly, life slowed down enough for me to actually see what we were doing… and what we weren’t.

We started cooking at home—and to our surprise, actually liked it. These days, eating out is rare and reserved for when we feel like being social (which, let’s be honest, isn’t often). Cooking became our family thing: good music, a cocktail in hand, and all of us prepping together. It’s our therapy, our catch-up time, and our daily reset. Even our daughter jumped in—chopping veggies, mixing dressings, learning right alongside us. It became something we all look forward to.

Then came the rabbit hole. It started small. I read an article that made me question antibacterial soap—remember that craze? I was all into it when our daughter was born. A decade later and I realized that wasn't necessarily a good thing. Next thing I know, I’m making my own hand soap (we still do) and side-eyeing every label in our bathroom. Like, why was I slathering myself in lotion every day and still feeling like a lizard?

One change led to another. And then another. Pretty soon we were was swapping products, tweaking recipes, and asking bigger questions—about food, wellness, and the way we’d been taught to take care of ourselves. And I wasn’t doing it alone. My daughter got curious too, asking what was in our toothpaste or if we could make a natural version of her favorite snacks. It became a family evolution—one small change at a time.

Then we did something really wild: we left Houston after 40 years. We were craving fresh air, less traffic, and a slower, simpler way of life. Our search led us to a tiny town tucked into the mountains of Western North Carolina—and it was love at first sight. We packed up and moved in February 2020… and then, well, the world shut down.

COVID hit pause on everything—but for me, it hit fast-forward. It intensified my curiosity about health, immunity, and how to really take care of our bodies. I dove into herbalism, got serious about nutrition, and rethought everything we allowed into our home and our lives. Our daughter was right there with us, learning how to make herbal tinctures, helping plant herbs, raising chickens, and turning into a tiny, nature-loving wellness warrior.

Today, we avoid the junk—fast food, processed ingredients, unnecessary meds—and stick with what actually fuels us: herbs, sunlight, movement, and whole, real food. The proof? While sickness makes the rounds, our little trio just keeps chugging along, healthy and strong.

This isn’t about fear. It’s about empowerment—for us, and for the next generation we’re raising to live well and live aware.
