Foaming Hand Soap Made Easy
Where My DIY Journey Really Began (Spoiler: It Was Soap)
It all started with hand soap. Yep, that innocent little bottle by the sink.
I had finally ditched the antibacterial stuff (thanks to a rabbit hole of research), and thought I was doing better with Mrs. Meyer’s. But then came the fragrance bomb—synthetic scent overload. Clean? Sure. But clean-smelling doesn’t always mean clean-living.
I wanted something better.
A soap that didn’t cost $10 a bottle
Didn’t strip my skin like industrial degreaser
And didn’t leave me marinating in mystery chemicals
I tried a few DIY recipes that were... fine. But then I found the one—simple, affordable, gentle, and effective. It’s been on every sink in our house for over a decade and hasn’t let me down yet.
My Go-To DIY Foaming Hand Soap
What You’ll Need:
1 foaming soap pump bottle (these last!)
2 tbsp liquid castile soap (like Dr. Bronner’s – unscented or a natural scent like lavender or peppermint)
1 tsp carrier oil (jojoba, almond, or fractionated coconut oil—optional but adds moisture)
10–15 drops essential oil (optional for scent—think tea tree, lemon, or lavender)
Filtered or distilled water (to top it off)
How to Make It:
Add the castile soap to your bottle.
Add the carrier oil (if using).
Add essential oils.
Fill the rest of the bottle with filtered water—slowly, so it doesn’t foam up before you close it.
Screw on the pump, give it a gentle shake, and boom—you’ve got clean hands without the chemical drama.
Why I Still Use This 10 Years Later
Leaves my hands clean and soft (even in winter)
No synthetic fragrances, preservatives, or sketchy ingredients
Costs a fraction of store-bought “natural” brands
Smells amazing (because you choose the scent—or none at all)
This isn’t just a crunchy Pinterest experiment. This is legit, real-life, mom-approved, skin-happy soap. And once you try it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t make the switch sooner.
